Only four days until Christmas. A lot of you seem to have it all together, and I applaud you. Well done!
Also, this post is not for you. Just swipe and carry on, kthx.
Still here? Looking at everyone else’s perfect, shiny, filtered pics on insta? Eating store-bought cookies for breakfast, haven’t showered yet?
You’re my people. This post is for you.
Yesterday we texted the contractor who assured us 7 weeks ago, even 4 weeks ago, that we would be home by Christmas.
Such optimism.
I marvel at the ever-resilient, eternally-cheerful, naive confidence of contractors who feel sure - ALMOST SURE - that the work will be done by a certain date.
I mean, thanks for trying, really. I saw how hard you’ve worked. No shade. But can we acknowledge that there’s no sign at all of a kitchen in there? And it’s December 21. I don’t think we’ll be cooking any turkeys - or even making coffee - on Christmas Day.
Today I got up at 5 AM, as I usually do, for one more day of work before Christmas Eve. Gonna be super-productive, got a mighty to-do list to get through. Starting early gives me that essential quiet time to pray, absorb Scripture, journal, all with a nice cup of dark roast.
But the dog had to pee *right now*. Out we went. Came back in.
Where are my earbuds? I left them *right here* last night. Spent a half hour looking for them, finally turning on the “find my” function to find them.
Guys. They were in my coat pocket. I apparently put them in there AT 5AM WHEN I TOOK THE DOG OUT.
WHY??!!!
I don’t know.
After that, Gibson whined earnestly for another half hour. He had peed. He had water and the required treats. Food was available. He didn’t want a toy or a lap or a pat on the head.
“WHAT DO YOU WANT??!!!”
He wanted the empty food bag. 🙄
So that is how my quiet time for the day went.
And that is where my productivity for the day went.
And I vote that we all just settle down and lower our expectations, and let the shiny, all-together people do their thing.
Me, I’m gonna move some things from my today to-do list to my next week to-do list and eat another cookie.
The 5am Club is filling up.
So glad that I am not the only one!!
